Multi-spot Welding Process of Mid-frequency Spot Welding Machine

In multi-spot welding with a mid-frequency spot welding machine, ensuring the size of the fusion core and the strength of the weld points is essential. Welding time and welding current complement each other within a certain range. To achieve a desired strength of the weld points, one can use high current and short time (strong conditions, also known as hard specifications), or low current and long time (weak conditions, also known as soft specifications).

Whether to choose hard or soft specifications depends on the metal’s properties, thickness, and the power of the welding machine being used. There are upper and lower limits for the current and time required for metals with different properties and thicknesses, and these should be followed during usage.

Electrode pressure has a significant effect on the total resistance (R) between the two electrodes. As the electrode pressure increases, R decreases significantly, while the increase in welding current is not substantial enough to offset the decrease in heat generation caused by the decrease in R. Therefore, the strength of the weld points decreases overall with an increase in welding pressure. The solution is to increase the welding current while increasing the welding pressure.

Welding Process:

Pre-pressing Time: Lower the electrode to the stage where the current is switched on to ensure proper pressure between the electrodes.

Welding Time: The welding current passes through the workpiece and generates heat to form a fusion core.

Pause Time: The electrode begins to lift and descend, starting the next welding cycle.

Maintenance Time: Cut off the welding current to maintain electrode pressure until the fusion core solidifies to sufficient strength.
