Cleaning of alloy workpiece of condenser energy storage spot welder before welding

The capacitor energy storage spot welder must clean the surface of the workpiece before welding the alloy workpiece to ensure the stability of the joint quality. Cleaning methods are divided into mechanical cleaning and chemical cleaning. Commonly used mechanical cleaning methods are sandblasting, shot blasting, polishing and using gauze or wire brush.

Magnesium alloys are generally cleaned chemically and then purified in a solution of chromium anhydride after corrosion. After this treatment, a thin and dense oxide film is formed on the surface, which has stable electrical properties and can be maintained for 10 days or more, and the performance is still almost unchanged. Magnesium alloys can also be cleaned with a wire brush.

Copper alloys can be treated in nitric and hydrochloric acid, then neutralized and welded residue removed.

When superalloy spot welding, it is very important to maintain a high degree of cleanliness of the workpiece surface, because the presence of oil, dust, and paint can increase the possibility of sulfur embrittlement, resulting in defects in the joint. Cleaning methods can be laser, shot blasting, wire brush or chemical corrosion. For particularly important workpieces, electrolytic polishing is sometimes used, but this method is complex and has low productivity.

The oxide of titanium alloys can be removed by deep corrosion in a mixture of hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sodium phosphate. It can also be treated with a wire brush or shot blasting.
